Q: What is a Tesla coil?
A: Tesla coils are high-voltage, low-current, high-frequency resonant electrical transformers, capable of producing dramatic plasma discharges in the form of lightning-like electrical arcs. The first Tesla coil was actually invented in 1891 by inventor Nikola Tesla, during his development of alternating current technology and radio. The technology has come a long way since then, and with the advent of 21st century electronics it has only recenly become possible to produce musical sparks with dramatic lightning-like effects.
Q: How is the Zeusaphone able to play music?
A: The Zeusaphone is a special type of dual-resonant solid-state Tesla coil, or DRSSTC. It is distinguished from old fashioned “spark-gap” Tesla coils in that it uses modern high-power transistors to pulse electricity through the primary coil instead of using a physical air-gap. Since the power switching functions are electronically controlled, you can introduce a musical signal to play music through the range of frequencies that it is capable of pulsing power at. In musical mode, frequencies of up to 900HZ are possible. The lightning-like arcs vibrate the air at these musical frequencies, which produce the amazing sound you hear!
Q: What type of musical input is used by the Zeusaphone?
A: The Zeusaphone accepts dual-channel input from MIDI devices, the universal standard for electric piano synthesizers/keyboards. Each individual system is duophonic, capable of playing two notes at the same time through each Tesla coil. With use of the bonus MIDI to USB adapter, you can also play prerecorded musical files directly from a laptop computer. Producing lightning-like sparks using analog audio files, such as from an MP3 player, is not physically possible because amplification of this wider range of frequencies results in short, fat, flame like sparks which are not nearly as exciting to watch.
Q: Can a Zeusaphone also be used like a regular Tesla coil, without the music?
A: Yes, the musical controller also has a built in pulse-generator, allowing you to operate the coil from through an optimal range of frequencies from 80-500 HZ. This mode of operation is similar to a variable speed asynchronous spark-gap Tesla coil.
Q: Can the power level and spark length be easily controlled?
A: Yes, each system includes a variable power transformer which allows you to control the voltage input to the Tesla coil. You can slowly and smoothly increase power from zero to full power with the simple turn of a dial. Sparks can be made as little as a few inches on up to full system specifications. A seperate electronic controller also allows you two mix the relative power balance of two musical channels to produce the best sound possible.
Q: Is it easy to setup and use?
A: Setup and operation is actually a lot easier than you might think. Any intelligent person can operate our systems without a problem, but our judgment of your own common sense is a definite prerequisite for us to approve your purchase. Don’t worry too much though, we have rarely needed to decline sales to our customers based on intelligence and aptitude. A little technical ability goes a long way, but no advanced specialized experience is generally required for most general applications. A user’s manual is included which explains all setup and operational procedures in detail, including easy to follow instructions on how to achieve the absolute best performance possible. We are also happy answer any questions you may have, and can even walk you through setup and operation over the phone if needed. In some cases we may even be able to travel to your location for setup and training on proper use.
Q: What is the current availability and pricing?
A: Contact us at email@example.com for current availability information. Your project may take as little as 2 weeks to as much as 2 months or more, depending on the size, complexity and customizations required by your project. Our production capacity is very limited and we reserve the right to decline sales to any customer at our sole discretion.
Q: How do I place an order?
A: Simply contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your request and we’ll be glad to get the ball rolling for you within the next business day. We’ll send you an invoice payable by check, direct deposit or credit card via Paypal. Alternatively, we can set up an eBay auction if you would prefer to utilize their additional services.
